If the car won't start or has died on the road, we'll come and collect it at no extra charge so you don't risk more damage.
Get the fault codes read properly with dealer-level diagnostics rather than guessing or clearing the light and hoping. At 1 Car Service in Sin Ming we scan the car, read the codes and tell you straight whether it is the ECU, a sensor, the wiring or the battery, so you only pay for the work your car actually needs. If it is the ECU, we repair, reflash or replace it, from S$750 for Asian makes and from S$950 for continental cars, backed by at least a 6-month warranty, and we collect the car at no extra charge if it won't start.
My Mini One was discharged from a previous workshop, which only informed us of the outstanding issue and quoted 3.xk to replace the DME (ECU) upon collection. My car had been with that workshop for a week with the issue unresolved. After doing some research, we reached out to 1 Car, who advised us to bring it in for inspection. Within 15 minutes, they identified the problem and provided a reasonable quote.
My Mazda 3 broke down after pumping petrol was unable to starts, my own workshop suspect might be ECU problem. They suggested get a ECU specialist to check, friend recommended 1 car service workshop.
Porsche Cayenne having an ECU burnt out and error code p2293 HPFP issue. Before the fuel pressure is low at 90psi. Now, become alive at 1300-1400 psi max and 500 psi at idle. 1 Car dedicated time and effort to fix the Porsche. Sincere thanks to them.
Mercedes B160 (2011 model) had transmission issue when change gears and went to limp mode. Towed my car to my regular mechanic and he diagnosed the car to have Transmission Control Module (TCM) issues.

We diagnose and repair ECU, ECM and control-module faults for continental and Japanese cars, from everyday makes to Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Audi, using brand-specific tools so we fix what's actually wrong.
Brand-specific scan and fault-code read to confirm the ECU as the source before any work begins.
Board-level repair of corrosion, water damage and failed components, or a properly coded replacement when repair isn't viable.
At least 6 months on the ECU repair and the work carried out, documented from collection.
Every repaired or replaced unit is coded to your car and road-tested, then scanned again to confirm no faults return.
The ECU, the Electronic Control Unit, is the brain of your car. The main one, the engine ECU or ECM, controls fuel delivery, ignition timing and air intake hundreds of times a second so the engine runs smoothly. Modern cars carry several control units, for the transmission, the body electronics, the airbags and more, but when people say "ECU fault" they usually mean the engine control unit, and that is what this page is about.
ECUs fail for a few common reasons. Heat and vibration in the engine bay crack solder joints and circuit tracks over time. Moisture is a big one in Singapore, because our humidity and the odd coolant leak corrode circuit boards and cause shorts. Voltage spikes from a failing alternator, a poor battery connection, or an incorrect jump-start can overwhelm the delicate electronics. Software can corrupt too, especially after a faulty update or an interrupted remap. And physical damage from an accident or rough handling during other repairs can knock a unit out.
Left alone, an ECU fault rarely fixes itself. It can leave you stranded with a no-start, or let the engine run badly enough to cause other damage. The first job is always an accurate diagnosis, so you only pay for the fix the car actually needs.
ECU symptoms can look like a lot of other problems, which is exactly why a proper scan matters before anyone spends your money.
1. The car won't start. A dead ECU can leave the car cranking but never firing, or not cranking at all. It is one of the most common ways an ECU fault shows up.
2. A check-engine light that won't clear. The light comes back soon after a reset, often with stored or pending fault codes the ECU keeps logging.
3. Limp mode or loss of power. The car limits itself to protect the engine, holding low revs or refusing to rev past a point.
4. Rough running and poor economy. Misfires, stalling, a rough idle, or fuel economy that has dropped off can all trace back to an ECU that is no longer controlling things correctly.
5. Immobiliser and key faults. If the ECU and the immobiliser stop talking, the car may not recognise the key and will refuse to start, even with a healthy battery.
6. Faults after a flat battery or jump-start. Odd electrical behaviour or warning lights that appear right after a flat battery or a bad jump-start often point to the ECU taking a voltage hit.
The catch is that a flat battery, a failing sensor, or corroded wiring can mimic every one of these. We confirm the ECU is genuinely the fault before recommending a repair, instead of replacing an expensive unit on a guess.
We start every ECU job with a proper diagnosis, not a guess. We connect the latest brand-specific diagnostic tools to your car's port, pull every stored and pending fault code, and check live data to see what the ECU is actually doing. That tells us whether the unit itself has failed, or whether it is reporting a fault somewhere else, a sensor, the wiring, or a flat battery.
This step matters because an ECU is an expensive part, and swapping one on a hunch is the classic costly mistake. One owner came to us after another workshop had quoted thousands to replace the DME, only for us to identify the real problem in about fifteen minutes. Another arrived sure his Mazda needed a new ECU, and the actual fault was a faulty battery. We would rather find you the cheaper fix than sell you the bigger one.
Throughout the job we send WhatsApp photos and updates, so you can see what we found and why a part needs attention before we proceed.
Once we have confirmed the ECU is the fault, there are three ways forward, and the right one depends on what has actually gone wrong.
Repair the unit. Many ECU faults are board-level: corroded tracks from moisture, cracked solder joints from heat, or a failed capacitor, resistor or driver chip. These can be repaired by cleaning the corrosion and resoldering or replacing the failed components on the board. Where this is viable it is usually the most cost-effective fix, because you keep your own coded unit.
Reflash or recode. If the hardware is sound and the fault is in the software, a corrupted map, a botched update, or settings that need restoring, the unit can be reflashed with the correct software and recoded to your car.
Replace the unit. If the board damage is too far gone to repair reliably, we fit a suitable replacement unit and code it to your car so the engine and immobiliser recognise it. Correct coding is essential here, because an uncoded unit simply will not run the car properly.
We tell you which option your car needs and why, with the cost of each, before any work begins. If the honest answer is that a sensor or the wiring is the real fault and the ECU is fine, we tell you that too, even when it means a smaller bill.
Turnaround depends on the fault and whether parts are needed, and we confirm a timeline once we have diagnosed your car.
Our climate is hard on car electronics. Constant high humidity drives moisture into connectors and onto circuit boards, and given enough time that moisture corrodes the fine copper tracks and solder joints inside an ECU. Add an occasional coolant leak or a wet engine bay and the corrosion accelerates.
Heat does its share too. Stop-start traffic keeps the engine bay hot, and the repeated expansion and contraction works cracks into solder joints and circuit tracks. None of this is the owner's fault, it is simply what years of heat and humidity do to electronics that live next to a running engine. It is also why so many ECU faults here are corrosion and joint failures that respond well to a proper board-level repair, rather than write-offs.
We handle ECU faults across continental and Japanese cars. On Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche we use brand-specific tools to read and clear the manufacturer fault codes that generic scanners miss, which matters because premium ECUs are tightly coded to the car. We see plenty of Japanese cars too, from Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Nissan, where an apparent ECU fault often turns out to be a more contained sensor or battery issue.
If the fault is in the transmission's control unit rather than the engine ECU, that is a mechatronic unit repair on a DSG or automatic, and we handle that under the same roof. For general engine fault-finding beyond the electronics, see our engine repair workshop, and for a full rebuild there is our engine overhaul service. For brand-specific electronics work we run dealer-level diagnostics, including at our BMW workshop. Not sure which applies to your car? WhatsApp us your make, model, year and symptoms and we'll give you a straight answer.
How much does ECU repair cost in Singapore? It depends on your car and what has actually failed, so we always diagnose and quote first. As a guide, ECU repair starts from S$750 for Asian makes and from S$950 for continental cars. A board-level repair is usually cheaper than a coded replacement unit, which is one more reason an accurate diagnosis pays off.
The final figure depends on the make and model, whether the fix is a repair, a reflash or a replacement, and whether any related parts, a sensor, wiring or a battery, also need attention. You get a clear, itemised quote before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
If your car won't start, keeps throwing a check-engine light, or has dropped into limp mode, don't agree to an expensive ECU replacement before someone has confirmed it's actually needed. Drive down or WhatsApp us. We'll scan the car, read the fault codes, and tell you straight whether it's the ECU or something else, with an honest quote and no obligation.
WhatsApp us for an honest quote. We'll confirm whether it's the ECU, a sensor, the wiring or the battery before any work begins.
WhatsApp us - honest quoteThe ECU, or Electronic Control Unit, is the electronic brain of your car. The main engine ECU, also called the ECM, controls fuel delivery, ignition timing and air intake so the engine runs smoothly. Modern cars carry several control units, but an ECU fault usually refers to the engine control unit.
Common signs are a no-start where the car cranks but won't fire, a check-engine light that keeps coming back, the car dropping into limp mode or losing power, rough idle and misfires, an immobiliser or key fault, and strange electrical behaviour after a flat battery or a jump-start. A flat battery and sensor faults can mimic these, so we scan to confirm the ECU is genuinely at fault first.
Often it can be repaired. Many ECU faults are board-level, such as corrosion from moisture or cracked solder joints from heat, which can be repaired by cleaning and resoldering or replacing the failed components. If the fault is in the software, the unit can be reflashed and recoded. We only fit a replacement when the board damage is too far gone to repair reliably, and then we code the new unit to your car.
It depends on your car and what has failed. As a guide, ECU repair starts from S$750 for Asian makes and from S$950 for continental cars. A board-level repair is usually cheaper than a coded replacement unit. We diagnose first and give you an itemised quote before any work begins.

It could be, but a no-start has several possible causes, including a flat or faulty battery, a bad starter, a fuel or immobiliser fault, as well as the ECU. We scan the car and check the basics before pointing to the ECU, because swapping an expensive unit on a guess is the costly mistake we help owners avoid.
