The owner messaged us to say the front of the car dropped in ride height after parking, while the rear stayed at its normal height. It came back up to height once the car was started, and no suspension fault code was showing.
The car could still be driven, but we arranged a tow so it could come straight in.
The Range Rover Sport PHEV rides on electronic air suspension, pressurised by a compressor and controlled by the suspension ECU. At the front right, the corner is carried by an air strut assembly whose airbag inflates or deflates to adjust the ride height and stiffness, along with a conventional damper inside.
Air suspension parts are wear items on any car that carries them. An airbag membrane can crack with age and heat cycles, and when it goes, the strut loses pressure and the corner sits down. Singapore's heat is hard on rubber components like these.
We diagnosed it by watching the ride height with the car parked. At first all four corners sat down together. The car's auto access height function was switched on, so we switched it off and parked the car again.
This time the rear held its height. Both front corners still sank, and the front right sank faster and further. That pointed at the front right air strut. The front valve block could not be ruled out yet, so we agreed with the owner to replace the front right strut first and look at the valve block only if both fronts kept sinking.
The strut was replaced as a complete unit rather than patched.
The rubber airbag inside each air strut is a flexible membrane that inflates and deflates thousands of times over the life of the car. Heat, ozone in the atmosphere and age gradually harden and crack the rubber. Once the membrane develops a leak, the strut loses pressure and the corner collapses.
A strut can leak slowly or let go quickly once a crack develops. Heat speeds up the ageing of the rubber, and Singapore gives it plenty of that.
We replaced the front right air suspension strut with a BWI Europe OEM unit.
Once the new strut was in, the car was ready for collection.
What an air strut replacement costs depends on which corner failed and whether any related parts such as the compressor or valve block need attention, so we scan and quote first. The strut itself is a significant part of the cost; we fit an OEM-specification unit rather than a cheap pattern part.

A few things are worth watching for on any car with air suspension. If the car sits lower on one corner overnight or after parking for a few hours, that corner is losing pressure somewhere in the air suspension circuit. An air suspension warning that keeps coming back, even after reset, means a fault that has not been resolved.
Having the suspension system scanned when you see any height change or warning light is the best way to catch a failing component before a corner collapses completely and leaves you stranded.
