Porsche gearboxes are precise pieces of engineering, so when something goes wrong the symptoms are usually specific. Knowing what you are dealing with takes some of the stress out of it.
1. Jerking or hesitation on takeoff. You pull away and the car lurches instead of pulling smoothly. In a car that is meant to feel effortless, it stands out immediately. Often a PDK sensor issue, clutch pack wear, or a valve body fault, and frequently fixable without a full overhaul.
2. Clunky or harsh shifts. Changes that used to feel seamless now feel mechanical. Your PDK or Tiptronic is losing precision. Caught early, it is a much smaller job.
3. Gearbox warning light. Any gearbox-related warning on the instrument cluster needs a PIWIS scan. Generic OBD scanners won't read Porsche faults properly, so the warning gets cleared without the cause being found.
4. Slipping out of gear. The car drops out of gear or loses drive entirely. This is serious. Don't keep driving it, WhatsApp us and we'll advise.
5. Delayed engagement. A noticeable pause before the car moves after you select Drive or Reverse. An early warning sign worth addressing before it gets worse.

PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung). Porsche's dual-clutch transmission, found in the 911, Boxster, Cayman and Panamera. Fast and precise when healthy, and you feel it in every shift when it isn't. Tiptronic S. Porsche's torque converter automatic, found in older Cayenne and Panamera models. Common issues are solenoid faults, valve body wear, and torque converter shudder. Hybrid transmission. Cayenne and Panamera hybrid models combine the gearbox with an electric motor unit. These are more complex to work on. We have experience with them and diagnose thoroughly before committing to a scope of work.
A gearbox overhaul means we replace all the consumable parts inside the gearbox. Everything that wears out over time gets replaced as standard, with no picking and choosing on internals.
Every overhaul includes: clutch packs, all internal seals, all gaskets, the transmission filter, and transmission oil.
What is not included, and why that's good news: parts outside the gearbox, such as the engine, flywheel, control modules, torque converter, valve body, oil pan and auto cooler, are not replaced as part of a standard overhaul. Not because we skip them, but because they don't need replacing unless they're actually faulty. We inspect them during diagnosis. If something external is causing or contributing to your gearbox problem, we'll tell you. If it's fine, you don't pay for it.
That is how an honest overhaul works. You pay to fix what's worn, not everything on a list.
