The cooling system moves heat away from the engine, while the thermostat controls coolant flow and the radiator releases that heat. A warning, rising temperature, sweet smell or wet patch can point to lost coolant or poor circulation. Waiting can turn a contained leak into overheating and wider engine damage.

Maintenance and early warning signs: Top up only with the specified coolant, and stop as soon as a temperature warning appears. Early signs: a sweet smell, a coolant level that keeps dropping, a wet patch, a temperature gauge climbing in traffic.

Gearbox oil lubricates moving parts, carries heat away and supports hydraulic control. Degraded or contaminated fluid can show up as hesitant, rough or inconsistent shifts, though fluid condition by itself does not prove an internal fault. Leaving poor fluid in service can add heat and wear, turning maintenance into a larger repair.
