What the owner reported
The owner drove in a Hyundai Ioniq Electric that was not moving right. There was an abnormal noise coming from the gearbox area, and the car was losing drive on acceleration. The electric motor felt like it was spinning but the car was not pulling the way it should.
Electric cars do not have a multi-speed gearbox like a petrol car, but the Ioniq Electric has a single-speed reduction gearbox that steps the motor speed down to the wheels. When that unit fails, the car loses drive just like any other gearbox failure, and the symptoms can be confusing if you are not familiar with how EV drivetrains are laid out.
