What the owner noticed
The owner got home and plugged in the E350e as usual. Nothing happened. The charging indicator did not light up and the battery showed no sign of charging after an hour. On the dashboard, a fault message pointed to the charging system.
The E350e is a plug-in hybrid: you can drive it on petrol alone, but the whole point of owning a PHEV is to charge it overnight and run the first 40 to 50km on electricity. With the charging system down, that cost-saving benefit disappears entirely and the car becomes an expensive conventional petrol car.
