We replace brake pads and discs for continental and Japanese cars, from everyday makes to Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Audi, using quality OEM-grade parts and a proper inspection first.

Brakes Are Not a 'Later' Problem

Every other repair on your car can usually wait a week. Brakes cannot. In Singapore's stop-start traffic your pads work hundreds of times in a single CTE crawl, and the wear creeps up quietly until one day the car needs an extra metre you don't have.

Here's the thing most drivers don't realise: worn pads don't just stop the car slower. Once the friction material wears through, the metal backing grinds directly into the disc. A $300 pad job becomes a pads-and-discs job, and if a caliper seizes from the heat, the bill grows again. The earlier you come in, the less you pay. That is not a sales line, it is just how brakes wear.

What We Actually Check Before Quoting

Plenty of workshops quote brakes by looking at the wheel from a metre away. We don't. Your car goes on the lift, the wheels come off, and our team measures what is actually there:

  • Pad thickness on every corner, in millimetres, front and rear
  • Disc condition: thickness against the minimum stamped on the disc, plus scoring, lips and warping
  • Brake fluid condition: moisture content, not just colour
  • Calipers and hardware: sliding pins, dust boots, any sign of seizing or uneven wear
  • Brake lines and hoses: perishing, swelling or leaks

Then you get photos of what we found and an itemised quote. If only the front pads are due, that is what the quote says. Uneven pad wear tells us about caliper problems early, which is exactly the kind of thing that saves you money when caught now instead of at the next inspection.

Pads Only, or Pads and Discs?

The honest answer: it depends on the measurements, and we show them to you.

Pads only is right when the discs are still above their minimum thickness, wearing evenly, and not warped. Most cars get one or two pad changes per set of discs.

Pads and discs together is right when the discs are at or below minimum thickness, deeply scored, or warped enough to pulse the pedal. Fitting new pads onto worn-out discs wastes the new pads and keeps the vibration.

Discs are replaced in pairs across an axle so the car brakes evenly. We fit quality OEM-grade parts matched to your exact model, from everyday Japanese makes to Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Audi, and we hand you the worn parts if you want to see them.

Brake Replacement Cost in Singapore

Brake pricing in Singapore varies widely because the job varies widely: a small Japanese hatchback's front pads and a continental SUV's four-corner pads-and-discs job are different animals.

Rather than quote a made-up range, here is real, documented work from our workshop:

  • A BMW brake pad and disc replacement, done together with a full major service, came to about $2,200 before GST for the whole visit. Read the case study.
  • A BMW 740Li major service with brake replacement, including a power steering pump and oil sump, came to about $3,800 for the full scope. Read the case study.
  • A Mercedes GLA full brake overhaul on all four corners used OEM parts all round, quoted and approved before work began. Read the case study.

Your car will have its own number, and you will see it, itemised, before we start. That is how every job here works. You can also browse more documented jobs with prices in our car repair cost guide.

How Long Do Brake Pads Last in Singapore?

There is no single number, and anyone who gives you one without asking how you drive is guessing. Pad life depends on the car's weight, the pad compound, and above all your traffic mix. Heavy stop-start city driving wears pads faster than expressway cruising. Hybrid and electric cars often go much longer because regenerative braking does part of the work.

What matters more than a number is the trend: have the pads checked at every service, and you will never be surprised. That check takes minutes on the lift and tells you exactly how much material is left. When the wear indicator starts squealing, or the dashboard warning comes on for cars with pad sensors, the decision has already been made for you.

One Singapore-specific tip: our humidity means cars parked outdoors grow a light film of surface rust on the discs overnight. A soft grinding sound on the first few stops of the morning that clears up quickly is usually just that film wiping off. A grinding sound that stays is not. If you're unsure which one you're hearing, WhatsApp us a voice note of it. Our team has heard them all.

FAQ on Brake Pad & Disc Replacement

Straight answers to the questions Singapore drivers actually ask us about brakes:

How do I know if my brake pads are worn out?

The common signs are a squeal or screech when braking (many pads have a metal wear indicator designed to make this sound), a grinding noise, a soft or low pedal, vibration when braking, the car pulling to one side, or a brake warning light. The only way to know for sure is to measure the pad thickness with the wheel off, which we do and show you.

How much does brake pad replacement cost in Singapore?

It depends on your car, the pad quality, and whether the discs need replacing too. We quote every job itemised before any work begins, so you approve the exact price first. As a documented reference point, a BMW brake pad and disc replacement together with a full major service came to about $2,200 before GST at our workshop. WhatsApp us your car model for an accurate answer.

Do I need to replace brake discs together with the pads?

Not always. If the discs are above their minimum thickness, wearing evenly and not warped, new pads alone are fine. If the discs are at minimum, deeply scored or warped, replacing pads alone wastes the pads and keeps the vibration. We measure the discs and show you the numbers, then you decide with real information.

How long does a brake replacement take?

We'll confirm the timing when you WhatsApp us, since it depends on the car, the parts needed and the workshop queue. Parts for common models are readily available. We road-test the car after the job and only hand it back when the brakes feel right.

Is it dangerous to drive with worn brake pads?

Yes. Worn pads lengthen your stopping distance, and once the friction material is gone the metal backing grinds into the disc, which damages it and can lead to sudden brake fade. In wet Singapore weather the margin gets thinner still. If you're hearing grinding, treat it as urgent and have it checked before a long drive.

Why does my steering wheel shake when I brake?

A vibration through the wheel or pedal when braking usually points to warped or unevenly worn brake discs, though suspension and wheel balance problems can feel similar. We check the discs, hubs and suspension together so the actual cause gets fixed, not just the loudest symptom.

Do you use original or OEM brake parts?

We fit quality OEM-grade pads and discs matched to your exact model. For owners who want original brand-boxed parts, tell us and we'll quote that option alongside, with the price difference shown, so you choose with full information.

My brake warning light is on. Can I still drive?

A pad-wear warning means the pads are due soon; driving to the workshop is normally fine. But a brake warning light together with a soft pedal or a fluid warning can mean a hydraulic problem, and that is not a drive-it-and-see situation. WhatsApp us a photo of the warning and we'll advise you honestly, and if the car isn't safe to drive we can arrange towing.

Can I pay for brake replacement in instalments?

Yes. We accept instalment payment via Atome, Grab and Shopee, so a necessary safety repair doesn't have to wait for payday.
