It depends on the car and the part: a high-pressure pump on a direct-injection continental engine costs far more than the in-tank pump on a Japanese hatchback, injectors are priced per cylinder, and access matters, because some pumps sit under the rear seat while others need the tank dropped. Fuel pressure at the rail, pump current, injector balance and live scan-tool data, so the pump or injectors are replaced only when they have really failed.
In-tank lift pumps and high-pressure direct-injection pumps, replaced with a quality unit, new seals and the filter checked, then pressure tested on the car.
Leaking, stuck or worn injectors replaced as a set or singly where the engine allows, with new seals and the injector data reset where the car needs it.

Most petrol cars have a lift pump in the tank that feeds fuel forward, and the injectors that spray it into the engine. Direct-injection engines, which includes most continental cars and many newer Japanese ones, add a high-pressure pump on the engine that raises that fuel to the pressure the injectors need. Any of the three can fail, and they share symptoms: long cranking, stalling, a stumble under load, a petrol smell.
So we test before we quote. We measure the fuel pressure at the rail and watch how it holds and recovers, check the pump's current draw, read the injector balance and fuel trims on the scan tool, and look for leaks at the pump flange, the lines and the injector seals. The results tell us which part is the fault, and we show you the numbers. A clogged filter, a tired relay or a perished seal is a much cheaper fix, and we would rather fit one of those than sell you a pump.
A leaking pump flange, line or injector seal puts petrol vapour under the car or in the engine bay, next to hot exhaust parts. That is a fire risk, not a nuisance, and it is why a petrol smell is the one symptom we ask owners not to sit on. A pump that is dying rather than leaking is less dramatic but just as inconvenient: it usually fails on a hot day in traffic, the engine cuts out, and the car has to be towed.
Injectors that leak or stick do quiet damage too. A cylinder running rich washes oil off its bore and can foul the catalytic converter; a cylinder running lean runs hot and can damage the piston. Both show up first as a rough idle, a misfire and a check engine light. Read early, the fix is an injector; ignored, it can become an engine job.
On many cars the in-tank pump is reached through a hatch under the rear seat; on others the tank has to be dropped, which is most of the labour. Either way we fit a quality pump module with a new flange seal, replace or check the filter, and pressure test the system before the seat or tank goes back. A high-pressure pump on a direct-injection engine is fitted with a new roller tappet and seal where the design calls for it, and the cam lobe it rides on is inspected while it is out.
Injectors come out with new seals and O-rings, and on engines that store injector codes the new set is registered so the engine computer meters fuel correctly. We then check fuel trims and the misfire counters on a road test, and confirm there is no smell of fuel before you collect the car. WhatsApp photos of the old parts throughout.
