Driveshaft & CV Joint Replacement in Singapore

Singapore's best car workshop confirms which CV joint or driveshaft has failed on a road test and on the lift, then replaces only that. Honest diagnosis, the right fix, transparent pricing.

A click-click-click on full lock, a clunk when you pull away, a shudder when you accelerate, or grease flung around the inside of a wheel? That is a CV joint or its boot on the way out. We find which it is before you pay for either.

We service all makes and models

Car brands we service: Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Maserati, Jaguar, Lexus, Toyota, and more

We confirm the joint before we quote

A road test on full lock and under acceleration, then every boot, joint, mount and heat shield checked on the lift. A worn engine mount, a loose exhaust bracket or a wheel bearing can sound just like a CV joint, and each is a different bill.

The right part, fitted right

A quality driveshaft or CV joint matched to your car, new boots and clamps packed with the correct grease, the hub nut torqued to spec, and the car road tested before handover.

Honest quote & instalment

An itemised quote before we start and the old shaft or joint shown to you, wear and all. Spread the cost with Atome, Grab or Shopee. No guesswork, no surprises on the bill.

The honest answer: How much does driveshaft or CV joint replacement cost in Singapore?

It depends on the car and on how far the wear has gone: a torn boot caught early, with the joint still sound, needs only a new boot and fresh grease on that side; a joint that has run dry means the joint or the whole shaft, and on an all-wheel-drive continental car the shafts cost more than on a Japanese hatchback. At 1 Car Service we road test the car and inspect every joint, boot and mount on the lift before quoting, then give you an itemised quote for the part and labour before any work begins. On our bills, the part lines for driveshaft or CV joint on one bill, added together (a labour line billed on its own is not included, and other work on the same bill is not counted), typically came to about $500: middle half $300 to $600, 128 priced bills since January 2023, GST included.

Singapore's best car workshop for driveshaft and CV joint replacement on continental and Japanese cars, from everyday makes to Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Audi. The joint confirmed first, the right part fitted, and the car road tested before you drive off.

What a driveshaft does, and why the CV joint is the part that wears

On a front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive car the driveshafts carry power from the gearbox out to the wheels. Because the wheels steer and bounce, each shaft has a constant-velocity joint at either end: the outer joint by the wheel, which lets it turn, and the inner joint by the gearbox, which lets it move up and down. Each joint runs in grease inside a rubber boot.

The boot is where the trouble starts. Rubber cracks with age and heat, a stone or a kerb tears it, and once it splits the grease is flung out and road grit gets in. The outer joint then wears fast and starts to click on turns; the inner joint wears and clunks or shudders under acceleration. Caught early, with the joint still sound, it is a new boot and fresh grease. Left alone, it is the joint or the whole shaft, and on a car with a locking differential or all-wheel drive, a joint that lets go can take more with it.

How we confirm it is the driveshaft and not something cheaper

A clicking or clunking noise from under the car has several possible sources, and a driveshaft is not the cheapest of them. On the road test we listen on full lock in both directions, on and off the throttle and under hard acceleration, because each joint speaks up in its own way. On the lift we check every boot for splits and grease, feel each joint for play, and check the engine and gearbox mounts, the exhaust brackets and heat shields and the wheel bearings, all of which can knock or hum in ways that get blamed on the shaft.

We tell you straight what we found. Sometimes it is a loose heat shield or a worn engine mounting rather than the driveshaft, and you pay for that instead. If it is the driveshaft, we tell you whether the joint is still sound under the torn boot, and you get an itemised quote before any work starts.

What a proper driveshaft or CV joint replacement involves

The wheel comes off, the hub nut is released and the lower ball joint or strut is separated so the shaft can be pulled from the hub and the gearbox. On a torn boot caught early the joint is stripped, cleaned and inspected; if it is still sound it is repacked with fresh grease under a new boot and clamps, and if it is worn a new joint goes on instead. On a full replacement a quality new or reconditioned shaft goes in with a new gearbox seal where the old one has been disturbed, so it does not leak later.

Everything is torqued to spec, the hub nut especially, and the car is road tested on full lock and under load before you collect it. On an all-wheel-drive car we check the front and rear shafts and the propshaft joints at the same time, because they age together. We show you the old joint so you can see the wear for yourself, and WhatsApp photos go to you as the job progresses.

What driveshaft and CV joint replacement costs in Singapore, from our own bills

The table below is drawn from our own invoices, not a guess: the driveshaft and CV joint part lines on our bills, by make. A boot and joint sits at the low end and a complete shaft on an all-wheel-drive continental car at the high end, so the range for a make reflects both kinds of job. Use the figures as a guide to the part, and WhatsApp us your car and symptom for the full quote.

What moves the price: whether it is a boot and grease, a joint or the whole shaft, one side or both, new or reconditioned, and the car itself, since continental and all-wheel-drive shafts cost more than those on an everyday Japanese hatchback. We quote it all itemised before we start, and you can spread the cost with Atome, Grab or Shopee. Documented prices for other jobs are in our car repair cost guide.

Our driveshaft replacement process

  1. Diagnosis. Road test on full lock and under load, then every boot, joint, mount and bearing checked on the lift.
  2. Clear quote. Joint or shaft, boots, grease, seals and labour, itemised before we start.
  3. Shaft out. Hub nut released, the shaft separated from the hub and gearbox without damaging the seal.
  4. Boot, joint or shaft in. A sound joint repacked under a new boot, a worn one replaced, a whole shaft where the wear calls for it, a new gearbox seal where needed, everything torqued to spec.
  5. Road test. Full lock and hard acceleration checked on the road before you collect the car, with the old joint shown to you.
Continental cars on the lifts inside our Singapore car repair workshop

Driveshaft work on continental cars

On Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Porsche many cars drive all four wheels, so there are front shafts, rear shafts and a propshaft with its own joints and centre bearing, and a noise from any of them can be blamed on another. We check the whole driveline on the lift, read the drivetrain modules where the car has them, and replace the joint or shaft that is actually worn. On the everyday Japanese and Korean cars a torn outer boot is the most common story, and caught early it stays a small job.

A knock over bumps rather than on turns is usually a suspension arm, link or bush, covered on our car suspension repair page. A hum that rises with speed and changes when you turn is more often the wheel bearing, and we check it at the same time.

Driveshaft and CV joint replacement FAQ

What does a worn CV joint sound like?

The outer joint clicks or pops when you turn at low speed, loudest on full lock. The inner joint clunks when you pull away or lift off, and can shudder under acceleration. We confirm which on a road test and on the lift before quoting.

Can I drive with a clicking CV joint?

A faint click that has just started can usually wait a few days for a proper check, driven gently. A loud clack on every turn, a shudder under acceleration or grease all over the wheel means the joint is far gone, and a joint that breaks up can leave you stranded. Have it checked promptly rather than pushing on.

Is a torn CV boot a big job?

Not if it is caught early. The joint comes off, gets cleaned, inspected and regreased, and a new boot and clamps go on. Once the grease has been out and grit in for a while, the joint is worn and the job grows to the joint or the whole shaft.

Do you replace the whole driveshaft or just the joint?

Whichever the wear calls for. A torn boot on a sound joint is a boot-and-grease job; a worn outer joint on a sound shaft is a joint-and-boot job. A joint that has run dry, a bent shaft or a worn inner joint usually means the complete shaft, and we tell you which before we start.

How much does driveshaft replacement cost in Singapore?

It depends on the car and on whether it is a boot and grease, a joint or a whole shaft. The table on this page shows what the driveshaft and CV joint part lines came to on our own bills by make. WhatsApp us your make, model and the noise you hear for an itemised quote.

Do you use new or reconditioned driveshafts?

Both, depending on the car and your budget. A quality reconditioned shaft with new joints and boots is a sound choice on many everyday cars; on some continental and all-wheel-drive models a new shaft is the better call. We explain the options and quote each.

Could the noise be something other than the driveshaft?

Yes, often. A worn engine mount, a loose heat shield or exhaust bracket, a suspension link or a wheel bearing can all knock or hum in ways that get blamed on the shaft. We check all of them on the lift, and you pay for the part that is actually worn.

Do you replace driveshafts on continental cars like BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche?

Yes. Many of them drive all four wheels, so we check the front and rear shafts and the propshaft joints together, read the drivetrain modules with the marque's own diagnostics, and fit the correct shaft for the car.

Clicking on turns or a clunk on take-off? Let's check the driveshafts properly.

WhatsApp Singapore's best car workshop. We road test the car and check every joint, boot and mount on the lift before quoting, because a worn engine mount or a loose heat shield can sound exactly like a CV joint. Then we replace only the joint or shaft that has actually failed, with a quality part, and show you the old one. A torn boot is cheap now and a whole shaft later. Spread the cost with Atome, Grab or Shopee.
