What each repair involves on the S-Class, when to inspect or replace, and what our invoices say it costs
The figures are from our invoices. Scheduled maintenance follows the requirements for your car's engine, gearbox and model year; other repairs are assessed from symptoms, inspection and diagnostic results rather than a universal age or mileage. The notes under each repair are general guidance for cars driven in Singapore, not statistics.
Gearbox oil changes on the S-Class
23% of the S-Class registrations in our records had at least one invoice involving this work (16 of 70, 21 invoices in all). On the bill, this item typically came to about $300 (13 recent priced bills, GST included; other work on the same bill is not counted).
Gearbox oil lubricates internal parts, carries hydraulic pressure and helps move heat away. Old or contaminated fluid can show up as hesitant changes, shuddering or a burnt smell. Leaving degraded fluid in service can increase heat and wear, turning maintenance into a deeper internal repair.
We use XENTRY data, a road test and checks of fluid condition and leaks to separate a service need from a mechanical fault. We give an honest quote for the fluid, filter or failed seal supported by the findings before work starts, without jumping to a whole-gearbox replacement.
Service interval: Follow the interval and fluid specification for your gearbox and model year; they differ between gearbox types even within one model, and we confirm them for your car. Where the maker lists no change for the life of the car, ask us whether a preventive change makes sense for your gearbox and driving.
Maintenance and early warning signs: Use the specified fluid and fill procedure, with the filter where your gearbox has a serviceable one, and avoid hard launches while the gearbox is cold. Fresh fluid is maintenance, not a cure for a gearbox that is already faulty. Early signs: a burnt smell, dark fluid, shifts that have become rough.

Cooling-system repairs on the S-Class
20% of the S-Class registrations in our records had at least one invoice involving this work (14 of 70, 25 invoices in all). On the bill, this item typically came to about $700 (middle half $200 to $1,400, 19 recent priced bills, GST included; other work on the same bill is not counted).
The cooling system moves heat away from the engine. The pump circulates coolant, the thermostat controls flow and the radiator releases heat. A warning, sweet smell, damp patch or rising temperature can point to lost coolant or poor circulation. Waiting risks overheating and damage beyond the failed cooling part.
We scan with XENTRY, pressure-test the cooling system and use tracing dye where the source is hidden. We identify the leaking pump, thermostat, radiator, hose or seal, then give an honest quote before work starts.
When to inspect or replace: Water pumps, thermostats, radiators and hoses are inspected and pressure-tested and replaced when a fault is confirmed; some engines also list a scheduled water-pump replacement, which we check for your car. Coolant itself is changed on the maker's schedule for your engine.
Maintenance and early warning signs: Top up only with the specified coolant, and stop as soon as a temperature warning appears. Early signs: a sweet smell, a coolant level that keeps dropping, a wet patch, a temperature gauge climbing in traffic.

Sensor, switch and control-module faults on the S-Class
19% of the S-Class registrations in our records had at least one invoice involving this work (13 of 70, 15 invoices in all). On the bill, this item typically came to about $800 (middle half $500 to $1,600, 12 recent priced bills, GST included; other work on the same bill is not counted).
Sensors report conditions, switches send commands and control modules coordinate vehicle functions. A warning light, erratic feature, unexplained battery drain or recurring fault message can signal a problem. Delaying a proper check can strain electrical components and lead to unnecessary parts being replaced.
We begin with an XENTRY full-system scan, live-data checks and targeted voltage or continuity tests. The evidence tells us whether the sensor, switch, connector or module is at fault, and your honest quote is agreed before repairs begin.
When repair may be needed: Diagnosis-led: a fault code names a circuit, not a part, so we test the sensor, switch, wiring and module before anything is replaced.
Maintenance and early warning signs: Keep sunroof drains, door seals and boot seals clear so rain stays out of the cabin and boot, fix battery and charging faults early, and never jump-start with the polarity guessed. Early signs: warning lights that come and go, features that drop out in the rain, an unexplained battery drain.
Engine oil leaks on the S-Class
17% of the S-Class registrations in our records had at least one invoice involving this work (12 of 70, 13 invoices in all). On the bill, this item typically came to about $500 (middle half $250 to $550, 7 recent priced bills, GST included; other work on the same bill is not counted).
Engine oil lubricates and cools moving parts, while gaskets and seals keep it contained. Drops under the car, a burning smell, smoke from hot surfaces or a falling oil level can reveal a leak. Waiting can reduce lubrication and let oil damage nearby belts, hoses or mounts.
We trace the leak from the highest wet point, clean the suspected area and use dye when the source is unclear, while XENTRY checks related fault data. We quote honestly before renewing the failed gasket, seal, cover or housing instead of resealing everything nearby.
When to inspect or replace: Checked at every service and repaired according to the source and severity found, from a weeping seal to a housing. No age makes a leak due.
Maintenance and early warning signs: Change the oil on time to the maker's specification, and fix small weeps before they reach belts, mountings and electrical parts. Early signs: drips under the car, a burning smell after driving, a falling oil level.

Suspension repairs on the S-Class
16% of the S-Class registrations in our records had at least one invoice involving this work (11 of 70, 14 invoices in all). On the bill, this item typically came to about $1,900 (middle half $1,050 to $2,350, 9 recent priced bills, GST included; other work on the same bill is not counted).
Shock absorbers control body movement, while arms, bushes and links keep the wheels located. Knocks, loose steering, a floating ride or uneven tyre wear can point to wear. Delaying repairs can affect handling and place extra load on nearby suspension and tyre components.
We combine an XENTRY check with a road test, mounting inspection and checks for joint play. That isolates the worn absorber, arm, bush or link, with an honest quote before any approved work begins.
When to inspect or replace: Absorbers, arms, bushes and links are inspected on a lift and on a road test and replaced individually when worn, leaking or split. They do not share one lifespan.
Maintenance and early warning signs: Slow down for humps and rough roads, avoid mounting kerbs, and keep tyres at the right pressure. Early signs: knocks over bumps, a bouncy or floaty ride, uneven tyre wear, wandering steering.

Brake pads, discs and wear sensors on the S-Class
11% of the S-Class registrations in our records had at least one invoice involving this work (8 of 70, 11 invoices in all). On the bill, this item typically came to about $1,300 (middle half $1,000 to $2,050, 7 recent priced bills, GST included; other work on the same bill is not counted).
Brake pads grip the discs to slow the car, while wear sensors alert the driver when attention is due. A warning, squeal, grinding sound, vibration or weaker braking can signal wear or damage. Waiting can let worn pads score the discs and increase the scope of the repair.
We read brake warnings with XENTRY, measure the pads and discs, inspect the sensor circuit and check braking response. We explain which brake part has reached its limit and provide an honest quote before replacement.
When to inspect or replace: Pads and discs are measured at every service and replaced by thickness and condition against the limits for your car, not by mileage. Discs are judged on the same measurement, not on a fixed number of pad changes.
Maintenance and early warning signs: Brake early and gently, leave a gap so you roll instead of stopping at every light, and use engine braking on long descents; stop-and-go traffic wears pads and discs faster. Early signs: squeal, grinding, a pulse through the pedal, a wear warning on the dash.

A visit stays lighter when it is limited to fluid or brake servicing, and rises when related cooling, electrical or suspension damage is found. These invoice figures are a guide, not a quote, because condition, fault location and required parts differ by car. We inspect your S-Class and give you an honest quote before work starts.
